The Seedbox is a great opportunity to borrow and plant seeds at home, as well as donate them to other gardeners.

The Seedbox obtains original seeds and issues them in small packages which include all the necessary information about choosing and growing the plants. The Seedbox’s collection is growing thanks to donations – we accept flower and perennial or edible indoor plant seeds that can be used as seasoning. If you’d like to donate seeds, please write down your name, the place and time where the seeds were collected (city, county, month, year) and the name of the plant species.

How can I borrow seeds from the Seedbox?

  • If you are not yet registered as a Tallinn Central library patron, please do so now online or at the library.
  • Check out the online catalogue ESTER (in this case use „seemnelaegas“ as a keyword) or come to the library and have a look at our seed selection on site.
  • In order to borrow the seeds come to our Laagna branch library.
  • There are no loan periods or overdue fees.
  • If your gardening is successful, please collect some of your seeds and bring them back to the Seedbox, so that other gardeners can borrow them as well.
  • Contact the Seedbox via e-mail: seemnelaegas@nulltln.lib.ee

When creating the Seedbox we drew inspiration from Tartu Public Library. The Tartu Seed Library was founded in the beginning of 2018 and has been very well received by Tartu citizens.

Plant exchange

At the Laagna Library, a Plant Exchange Cabinet has also been open since spring 2024. In the Laagna Plant Exchange Cabinet, you can find various plants looking for a new home. If you could be the one to offer them that, head over to the library and take a new little plant friend home!

But if you find that you also have small plants at home that would like a new home, feel free to bring them to the Laagna Library’s Plant Exchange Cabinet!
