Music and Film Hall

The Music and Film Hall is located on the ground floor of the main building (Estonia pst 8). It is the youngest department of Tallinn Central Library, opened on January 29, 2002. The department has an extensive collection meant for both studies and entertainment, covering a wide range of musical genres from classical to popular music in a variety of formats. The main items of the collection are:

• books about music and musicians in different languages
• sheet music
• music periodicals (including many magazines in English)
• audio recordings – mostly CDs but also LPs and some audiotapes
• music videos and films (not only musical films but also documentaries and feature films in different genres)
• console games (for Xbox 360)

All these items are available for online searching. The Music and Film Hall also has an access to the electronic database Grove Music Online.

Services

  • Home lending: books, sheet music, music periodicals, audio recordings and some videos.
  • In-house use: some books and reference materials, some videos and all console games.
  • Video room: houses up to 25 persons; contains all the necessary equipment for watching videos and playing console games. It is recommended to book the room in advance.
  • Multimedia editing: a workstation with necessary equipment and programs for converting VHS to DVD and editing audio and video files. The service is free of charge, advance booking is required.
  • Internet: 3 workstations are available for adults, 2 gaming computers for children; free WiFi is also available.
  • Copying: photocopies of the materials, printing, scanning. More info: Charged services
  • Reference services: reference questions are answered in person, over the telephone or via e-mail. Librarians also assist with the use of online catalogues and electronic databases.

The Music and Film Hall also organizes concerts and musical performances, different competitions and exhibitions.

 

Mobile Library

The Mobile Library Katarina Jee is open to readers of all ages. The bus collection features nearly 4000 items. This includes books and materials mostly in Estonian and Russian, but there is also a small selection of literature in English and Ukrainian.

The bus is equipped with an accessibility lift for wheelchair access.

There is an option for patrons to order books from the Pelguranna Library (683 0931, pelguranna@nulltln.lib.ee). All books in the Mobile Library and Pelguranna Library can be found on the online catalogue ESTER.

A Tallinn Central Library card is required to borrow materials from the Mobile Library.
