Naxos Music Libraries

Tallinn Central Library patrons may now use the English-language databases Naxos Music Library and Naxos Music Library Jazz.

From January 1, 2023 only residents of Tallinn who are registered patrons of Tallinn Central Library will be able to use the service.

What is Naxos?

Naxos Music Group is a Hong Kong-based company which includes Naxos Records (a record label for classical music) and different databases that enable music streaming and contain information about music and its history.

Naxos Music Library is the leading digital music library that boasts over 150 000 CD-s (including complete catalogues of several well-known record labels). The database includes Naxos Dictionary of Music, libretti of operas, work analyses, educational materials, essays etc. The database provides a comprehensive selection of different styles, genres, performers and eras of music. Blues, rock and world music are included.

Naxos Music Library Jazz offers a wide range of jazz music – from traditional to contemporary jazz. Recordings of over 32,000 artists are represented. The database includes a selection of pop and rock music and other genres.

Naxos Video Library gives an opportunity to watch live-performances of classical music, operas, ballets, plays and documentaries. Video library includes over 3000 videos that are available from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

Information about the Naxos databases

The databases can be used, free of charge, by residents of Tallinn, who have a valid Tallinn Central Library reader’s card and do not have any unpaid library fees.

Internet-based music databases can be used:

  • with your personal device by using either a web browser or the application
  • at Tallinn Central Library’s Music and Film Hall (Estonia pst 8)

NB! Apple devices do not support Naxos databases. Please refrain from using the Safari browser or use a non-Apple device.

The databases are meant for personal use only. Copying and using the data (incl. texts) for commercial use is prohibited. Tracks, albums and other pieces of music are protected by copyright. Public performance of the works is not permitted.

How to use the music databases?

Open the homepage of Naxos databases:  https://naxos.keskraamatukogu.ee/

To log in:

  • Enter your personal ID number or your library card number
  • Use your My ESTER password

Choose the database you wish to use.

Users can search the music by composer, artist, period, year of composition, instrument or genre. Select the track or piece of music and press Play.

Please log out of the website or application after you have finished using the database.

Playlists

Naxos Music Library includes categorised playlists. Every user can also create their own playlists. In order to use the playlist feature, you need to register a personal account within Naxos.

How to create a personal account:

  • Log into the database with your My ESTER user information
  • Click the Playlists option from the Naxos menu bar Playlists
  • In the gray Student/Member Playlists bar, click the link to Sign Up Login|Sign up
  • Fill in the registration form by creating your own password.
  • Once you’ve submitted the form, you’ll need to check the e-mail you registered with in order to confirm your registration.
  • Open Playlists again and log in (Login)
  • Click New playlists to start a new playlist
  • Choose a title and click Save Playlist
  • Open the detailed view of any album and click „+“ to add tracks to your playlist
  • In the pop-up box, select the folder and playlist to add the tracks into and name the playlist

Using Naxos on your personal smart device

Naxos Music Library and Naxos Music Library Jazz can be used on smart devices with application. Please use your chosen application store to download the application. To use the applications, you need to create a personal account on the Naxos website (see the first five points of „How to create a personal account“).

NB! The application can only be used to stream music and create playlists.
